What is bingo?
Bingo is a game played for fun and to win prizes! It's traditional played in bingo halls where people site at tables with their bingo cards and a bingo caller calls out the numbers. The traditional bingo hall game is 90 ball bingo as it uses the numbers 1-90.
The cards are randomly marked with numbers and the balls are numbered and drawn from a special machine. The bingo numbers have been given associated names over the years. Number 88 is known as two fat ladies because of the shape of the numbers. The number 22 is known as two little ducks because the number 2 looks a bit like a duck. Number 10 is referred to as the prime minister's den - so currently would be called as David's Den - number 10!
As each number is called out, the players mark off numbers. Each game may be played with smaller prizes for first line, or four corners, but generally the main prize if given each game for a full house - that is, every number on the card marked. A winner traditionally shouts House to alert everyone there of their win. The case is stopped and the numbers are checked off. The next game starts.
Some players are very superstitious about their game and prefer to sit in the same seat each week, use the same pen and have the same lucky talismans with them. It can be a social game as there is opportunity between games to chat and socialise.
